Authority Requirements
Working with Machine- or Process Safety can be very challenging due to the mandatory national and international legislation.
Directives may change and requirements change accordingly. DotBlue has an in-depth knowledge of national and international standards and directives and can thus render qualified and up-to-date services to our customers, so they comply with the Seveso directive, also referred to as COMAH (Control of Major Accident Hazards).
Seveso / COMAH
The Seveso directive applies to all companies handling or storing dangerous substances. They are defined into two categories depending on the quantity of the dangerous substances. That is, the Lower tier sites (below 50 tons) and the Top tier (above 200 tons).
Dangerous substances can also be of oxidizing, explosive or flammable character. When a company handles such substances, the local authorities must be consulted.
Safety barriers
Accidents do happen, but the consequences can be limited by implementing thoroughly defined safety barriers.
Safety barriers can be:
Our Specialists help our customers with the evaluation and improvement of various aspects of safety hazards, such as technical and organizational, including the impact of human errors and external factors.
This is to ensure compliance with legal requirements and to obtain the required documentation.
Gas Dispersion
Using the gas dispersion simulation software Phast, the loss of containment incidents can be analysed to determine how the pool spreading and evaporation cloud (flammable/toxic) may spread within the perimeter of the company. The effect on a possible third party in the area can also be analysed.
The results of the analysis form a valuable basis to define additional safety barriers, typical safety systems, and to improve gas detection layout as well.
